My work in schools
I am an experienced accredited play therapist with an extensive background in primary teaching. I work in partnership with schools to support children who have had or who are living with difficult experiences via play therapy, training and consultancy. This might be children who:
-
have regular emotional outbursts that they can't easily calm down from
-
seem to flare up for no reason
-
do not respond to typical classroom rewards and consequences
-
have trouble attending school
-
have high levels of distractability and/or off task behaviour
I have experience of working with children who:
-
have child protection plans
-
are fostered, adopted or have SGOs
-
are d/Deaf
-
are neurodivergent
-
have experienced a close family bereavement
-
have experienced divorce or parental separation
As part of my play therapy practise I work with parents and staff to advise how best to support children at home and at school.
As a teacher with 30 years’ experience in the primary sector I understand the pressures of the classroom and am passionate about supporting staff as well as children. I am an experienced clinical supervisor and can offer support and supervision for DSLs and staff working with stressful cases.
I am open to new opportunities and can tailor an individual package for your school including the following services:
Play therapy (individual and group)
Advice for staff and parents
Behaviour management consultancy and training
Trauma awareness consultancy and training
Staff support and clinical supervision
Alongside my school based work I am an experienced trainer and offer consultancy and training on behaviour approaches, issues such as Adverse Childhood Experiences, childhood trauma and secondary trauma.
